Pope says abstinence helping beat AIDS in Africa
Pope says abstinence helping beat AIDS in Africa
01 Dec 2005 16:01:00 GMT

VATICAN CITY, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Pope Benedict on Thursday said programmes based on promoting abstinence and marital fidelity were seeing success in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS in several parts of Africa.

But for the second day running in comments about AIDS, the Pope avoided a specific mention of the Roman Catholic Church's controversial ban on condoms.

In an address to the new ambassador from South Africa the Pope said the Catholic Church was well respected by African governments for its efforts to help address social problems.

"One notable example of this is the struggle against HIV/AIDS where statistics taken in several regions of Africa confirm the results of policies based on continence, the promotion of faithfulness in marriage and the importance of family life," he said.

The Pope did not mention which African regions or statistics he was referring to.

4. Abstinence policy at odds with pap Ratzi's exortation to "GO FORTH
AND MULTIPLY" like the Old Man Upstairs said in Genesis.

and the HIV transmission statistics dropping accordingly.
True, dead people don't pass on AIDS anymore, but they get so much less out of life.

6. Yeah, and ships that do not carry lifeboats or lifejackets....
Ships that do not carry lifeboats or lifejackets help prevent drowning. After all, people won't drown if they know nothing about and have no access to "protection."

Right?

False stats and no facts to back it up. The pope has been watching faux news!

11. "the promotion of faithfulness in marriage"
How about the promotion of faithfulness in long-term relationships that do not involve money?

A legal marriage costs money even if there is no wedding ceremony. A marriage contract has financial consequences.
