Pope Benedict holds first synod
Pope Benedict holds first synod

Pope Benedict has opened a meeting of Roman Catholic bishops from around the world, the first under his pontificate.
During the three-week synod, bishops are expected to discuss a range of controversial issues with the new Pope.

Church attendance, divorce, celibacy and abortion rights are all expected to feature on the synod's agenda.

The BBC's David Willey in Rome says dwindling numbers of priests and shrinking congregations are particularly worrying for the Vatican.

A document circulated in advance of the meeting highlighted an increasing shortage of priests.

1. High on agenda: imminent 'God's Banker' murder trial in Rome?
Defendants have claimed they will subpoena Marcinkus, who got immunity from prosecution from Poppy 20 years ago......

Or maybe:

Multiple child sex abuse lawsuits worldwide.

Immunity from prosecution lawsuit in Texas????

Anything else they might want to discuss?

2. Priest issue should be tabled from what I read
as the current "insider talk" is that there will be some magical renewal if all the "homosexuals/lavender mafia" and "traitorous dissenters" (actual terms used frequently by posters at Catholic World News) are purged.

The "offical" abortion stance is pretty tight and still misreprents the issue and seems to be taken from the GOP platform playbook.
