If those religious extremists backing ChristianExodus.whatever succeed |
|
in seceding, I say more power to them!
As long as they make good on the offer, and give up their rights as Americans. Including voting in the US elections.
Also, they must apply for passports to enter the country, and have to negotiate trade agreements, as any other sovereign nation has to do.
Let them have their own South Carolina island.
And if it's found that they're in this country illegally, treat them the way that Repukes say to treat illegal aliens (no, not give them honest Americans' jobs!).

1. I think the snag here is they want the entire state... |
|
not just an island. They want to outnumber the homegrown SCers. Then they want to secede.
I think it's far-fetched and replete with all sorts of complexities... legal, ethical and moral ( what about the rights of the outnumbered non-fundamentalists in SC, for example).
OTOH, a lot of national social and political problems could be ameliorated by a voluntary mass exodus of this segment of the populace from the body politic.
If they wanted to transplant to another country ... purchasing the land legitimately, of course... it might be less complicated.

2. The non-fundies would be welcomed to the US |
|
with open arms . . .
Unless they really enjoy being in a theocracy . . . just watch how fast they get "eminent-domained" when the Church decides that their beachfront property would serve God better than them . . .
