Religious Left vs Religious Right Question |
|
Hey everyone I have a question. I was wondering which churches do you consider left and right and why. Thanks Danny.

1. Churches Shouldn't Be In The Business Of Left or Right... |
|
They should be in the business of church doctrine. It's our job to decide which doctrine we wish to follow and not which churches are left or right.
While you wouldn't know it from our current White House occupant, it's still a country separate by Church and State.

There exist forms of conservativism and liberalism in religion, as in within a given religion itself. Typically, the distinction regards how inclusive or exclusive to be.
This reflects the continual tension, seen in many major religions, between two conflicting values: compassion for outsiders versus faith in the quality (or superiority) of the spiritual path offered.
Sects and parishes which emphasize compassion and inclusion and openmindness get labelled "liberal". Those which emphasize the importance of adhering to the prescribed path get labelled "conservative".
Technically, this dichotomy is independant of American politics. Both the political "left" and political "right" could conceivably be staffed by members from any sect.
So I'm wondering if you were asking where do various churches fall on the political spectrum? Or were you asking where to various churches fall on the religious spectrum?
Complicated, ain't it? :)

is actually a political measurement of economics (Measured from Capitalism on the right to Socialism on the left). This is not a religious measurement so the question is not valid. Sorry.

that divided religions not between left and right, but between "tribalism" and "universalism."
The point was that the more universal a religion or denomination was, the more tolerant it was. Conversely, the more tribalistic a religion is, the more intolerant and likely to believe it has a sole possession of "the Truth!"
