Encounter this afternoon - Akron Ohio - Damn that Oppression of Christians
!

So, this morning I go to the main branch of the Akron public library. I have a brainfart, and park two blocks away.

After researching the evolution of freeptards in the Akron Beacon Journal LTTEs, I leave the building and start walking to my car.

(I know, evolution and freeptards don't mix).

So I'm heading off to my car, and I see that there is a group of 4 or 5 at a point that I have to pass. I notice that some have something like those old sandwich boards ("Eat at Joe's"). I get suspicious.

I get to a point where I can jaywalk and start to cross the street. I notice that the other side of the street also has a suspicious group massed there. Hmm.

Essentially, there was no way around these people to get to my car without having to go back and go clear around two blocks.

I try to minimize contact as much as I can. I watch out of the corner of my eye.

Of course, one of the Alpha Males sees me reluctantly headint their way. He breaks from the "flock" (herd) and starts toward me. I put up my hand to wave him off. He still approaches. I put my hand up higher, and give him a look that says "Don't cross me." Somehow, it gets through his head that I do NOT want to put up with his shit. He stops and stands there, watching me go by.

At this point, I can read the sandwich boards of the initial group I was trying to bypass - my suspicions are confirmed - "Jesus Saves!". Comically, they are in front of a bank, but that's just my sense of humor/irony.

As I get past the Alpha, I notice that there are at least 4, maybe 6 groups strategically placed so that people have to encounter them. A group on each corner of the main intersection, plus some satellite groups.

As I get to the point where I am going to cross back over to the side I was originally on (hoping that they do notice that I crossed the street to avoid them), another branch of the Dumidians (a wordplay on the Branch Davidians) sends a representative towards me saying "Would you like . . .". This time, the hand held up in front of me and the look on my face gives this "Flag Tie"-wearing brainwashee the message and he backs off.

I manage to get past the last of the groups and get to my car. I pull down the street resisting the urge to let them experience a personal rapture and let them get to greet Jesus personally (and a bit earlier than they expected - but hey, they're wanting the rapture to come, right? And they think that they're going to be the first ones whisked off when the trumpet blows, right?)

I think that I showed remarkable restraint, don't you?

1. If they have so much time on their hands
why don't they do something constructive like visit an elderly person in a nursing or retirement home, take in a foster child, pick up garbage from the side of the road, etc.?

2. Too much restraint. I would ask them why they aligned with RevMoon
and how they could allow their religions to be manipulated by their leaders who have been funded and supported for almost 30 years by Moon.

I would have dared them to go home to their computers and do a search on Sun Myung Moon, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Falwell, and Bush and learn for themselves that they are being manipulated through religion FOR fascist politics.

5. I kept thinking - gee, I wonder if any Muslims would be allowed to
just stand on the streetcorners in bunches of 5 or more

WITHOUT POLICE HARASSMENT.

Damn, the Christians are so oppressed.

11. DU that poll!
On that "Christian Underground" <www.christian-underground.com> site there is a poll asking if you support gay marriage, the ACLU, socially liberal politicians, etc.

When I took the poll, I was only the 1500-somethingth person to have done so, and only the 50th or so person to voice support.

Think we can scrape together a few hundred DUers to sway the poll and blow some minds?

Have fun!

4. Wow. I'm generally more aggressive toward them.
I absolute will not abide proselytizing of any sort. "Do you feel that evil is winning in the world?" they ask me as I walk past. "Yes!" I say, "and you people are part of the anti-christian hordes! Now, stop taking up my oxygen!" They run. I laugh.

7. Good for you! Funny story about when I was proselytized by these 2 women.
Edited on Sat May-14-05 06:06 PM by TwentyFive
A cleanly scrubbed, but very overweight pair of women were standing on a street corner. They handed me some brochure that said something about obeying the bible and getting saved. I looked them up and down, handed them the brochure back, and said, "Well, it looks like you two missed that scripture on gluttony!"

Fortunately I spotted them 1/2 block away, and had time to think about an appropiate response.

9. That is so wrong!
I generally won't take shots at a person's physical shortcomings, but I'm sure you rattled their cages well enough.

8. Reverse-proselytization seems appropriate. Mention that
their 'rapture' based eschatology isn't Biblically correct and see what kind of reaction you get.

The book End Times Delusions, by Steven Wohlberg, shows that a 'pre-tribulation' rapture, with accompanying Third Temple (where antichrist will sit), is NOT the correct interpretation of the Bible.

This Left Behind eschatology is in fact the Counter Reformation theology of a Jesuit priest named Ribera from the 1500s. Strange that modern-day mainly Protestants would have bought the Catholic Churches end-times eschatology...but seems appropo due to the Opus Dei's facist Spain birth and the Knights of Malta being members who mostly made up our modern day CIA's early leadership: Donovan, Angleton, Dulles, McCone, Casey, etc. etc. etc.

I've heard that Hal Lindsey has consulted with the CIA also, which seems reasonable with the Third Temple requirement this brand of 'end timers' are promoting !

10. They had the nerve to approach me in my front yard as I was
gardening, walking onto my property, when I specifically shock my head and pointed for them to move on, so I picked up my phone, which I keep with me outside. They asked what I was doing, I told them if they didn't get off my property and stop tresspassing I was calling the police to have them arrested. They left saying I was going to hell and didn't I want salvation, I said no, not if their type was what I would have to put up with...

I know, not witty, or anything for them to think about, but I was REALLY PISSED that they thought they had any rights to coming onto my property and bothering me...
