4. No, the Bible warns against it. |

One of the temptations that Satan offers Jesus in the wilderness is to rule the kingdoms of the world in exchange for his allegiance to the Prince of Darkness. Naturally, Jesus refuses.

And since these people claim to be Christians, it's very instructive to look at the words of Christ. He said:
-- Pay your taxes -- Obey the laws of the land
And that's about it.
But more interesting, the people Christ criticized the most, those who he saved his harshest words for, were the Scribes and Pharisees and Chief Priests, who were both the religious and local governmental leaders of the people. All his denunciations of their hypocrisies would apply very well to the current batch of pseudo-Christian politicos.

The question is, how to take it away from them. Christ didn't act the way they do, and isn't that sort of the focus of CHRISTianity?

7. I interviewed a progressive minister today. Here's what he said: |
|
"It’s wrong for any local congregation to endorse Justice Sunday, because it’s not justice. It’s injustice. They are lying. They are being deceitful from the get go. They already violate the Christian scripture not to lie; that comes from the Ten Commandments.
When we talk about Christianity, justice deals with empowering the disenfranchised. What these justices will do is to continue to disenfranchise people, whether its environmental regulations, the rights of Native Americans, the rights to not be discriminated, the rights of the disabled, all of those rights will be disenfranchised if extremist judges with a very narrow and false understanding of the Christian faith get appointed ot these judgeships...
I believe Satan is alive and well, in the hearts of the leaders of the Christian right. Jesus said in Luke 16:10-13, "You cannot serve God and wealth." The Christian right...has been serving wealth and not Jesus in violation of the gospels.
...When government serves the common good, it can set standards because they are protecting the least among us...But deregulation upon the rich so that they can prey upon the poor, Jesus would oppose. That kind of capitalism is wrong. It’s sinful. Why right wing Christians reject Jesus at that point and make up their own theology is not understandable.
(Note: This guy is thinking of running for Congress!)

Thanks for posting that...
So how to create a short and pithy message which unquestionably juxtaposes their killing, lying, you name it, and what's in (or NOT in) the bible they wrap around themselves? Of course they could never acknowledge it, but ordinary people would become more polarized away from them.
Know them by their fruits is nice, but requires a different perspective.

12. They should try the better parts of the bible, such as the commandments |
|
Thanks for the link.
My point is of course, how to glaringly counter their contentions of doing the right thing.
Such as asking them, "Is that what Christ would do?"
The exclusionists can be slowed.

14. It comes out of this verse |
|
"The church is called to engage the world for Christ. Jesus commanded us to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you . . ."
