Judge Greer forced out of his church |
|
...The state judge at the center of the Terri Schiavo case in Florida has heeded a suggestion from his Southern Baptist pastor to withdraw his church membership. Judge George Greer has been consistent in his rulings in the Terri Schiavo case. He has repeatedly supported Michael Schiavo's demands that the feeding tube keeping his wife alive be removed. Through the years of these rulings, Greer has maintained his membership at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater. But as the Florida Baptist Witness newspaper noted this week, his relationship with the church became strained in 2003. That is when he started to complain about the church distributing the Baptist newspaper, which was running editorials critical of his decisions in the Schiavo case. Earlier this month, Greer spoke about his relationship with his church in an interview with the St. Petersburg Times newspaper. According to the press reports, a few days after that story ran, his pastor at Calvary Baptist, William Rice, wrote him a letter suggesting it might be easier for everyone concerned if he left the church. The reports say Greer quickly complied with his pastor's request and resigned.
now this is truly sad--his minister ran him off for doing his job
are there going to be employment litmus tests for church members now?
we recently saw the problems in San Diego with the refusal of the Catholic Church to allow a man who owned gay bars to be buried from the chapel at a Catholic college
what's next?

Maybe Judge Greer will go on to find a Christian church instead.

This just gets better and better, doesn't it? It's is so funny it's sick.
You know, I'd be afraid the church would be bombed by the other Baptist church in town, or the Episcopalians or whomever if I were the pastor. Putting Greer out was probably best to protect the rest of the congregation.

the real hypocrisy
By the way, the church is suposed to be separate
But this is a sign of something ugglier, the nation has become quite snarky since November... and the rethoric is just going up...

You don't bow to the will of the collective; you're gone.
Fortunately today they just kick you out instead of burning you at the stake.

They'll be able to take taxpayer money...yours for instance....and be within their rights not to hire you or, to fire you if you get cross-wise with them later on. Jesus was always settling skirmishes amongst His disciples, but He never ran any of them off. But, so what?! I wouldn't want to be in this church anyway. I can guarantee you some of the snobs probably told the pastor they were going to reconsider putting their tithes somewhere else if he didn't act and get rid of him. It's their loss.
