5. First Admendment
Protects the Bible and other religious texts like Dhammapada and Tao De Ching as free speech and as religious freedom.

It was never banned but fundies did forget to read it lately though.

6. It didn't.
The GOP sent mailings in two states (Arkansas and West Virginia) claiming that "the Bible will be prohibited and men will marry men if 'liberals' win in November."

The goal was to mobilize religious voters.

8. Election of 1800
A joke from the election of 1800 shows a Federalist woman seeking help from a Jeffersonian Democrat in hiding her Bible. Runor had it that Bibles would be banned under Jefferson. When the Democrat asked why she would ask him for help, she replied, "No one would think of looking for a Bible in a Democrat's house!"

9. never
I might be considered borderline right-wing on this newsgroup, so I'll answer the question. The bible was never banned in the U.S. Dominionists and the ilk that wants a theocracy are upset that they can't evangelize non-Christian students in the classroom. As a Christian, I believe it is a fundamental right to read a bible at school, in spare time, but not to organize prayer in the classroom or teach creationism.
