I screwed up on the question about the Pilgrims. I assumed that since they were still under the King of England that they had to allow the Anglican church.... well I've learned something new.

18. That one is tricky....

and I'm not sure the answer is technically correct. The Puritans were rather draconian when it came to protecting their flock, but there actually were non-Puritans in Plimoth Plantation with which they coexisted without oppression. It was a business arrangement. Likewise in Virginia. In the beginning I think the coexistance was less a matter of religious toleration and more one of practical survival. I think that question would be better left off the quiz.

Above average, but looks like for a DUer I'm pretty uninformed.

As a caveat, though, I admit that I spent a good many years, though, as a member of a "Moms in Touch" prayer group that prayed weekly for my school district and thanked god for our Christian teachers and school administrators, so I do think I've come a long way.

I thought most of the questions were "loaded." I guess it was meant to dispel myths that anyone who actually studies history would know anyway. I have seen the John Adams quote used a lot in the separation discussion. I have not, however, seen this quote from John Jay in Federalist #2. John Jay would, of course, become the first chief justice of the Supreme Court. Please note "professing the same religion..."

"With equal pleasure I have as often taken notice that Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people--a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence."

It's outrageous.. Here's an example.

From Page 8, “Free Exercise of Religion”: - “The Party pledges to exert its influence to restore the original intent of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and dispel the myth of
the separation of Church and State.”

It also calls for the wholesale dismantling of the Federal Government.

This is from page 19:

Downsizing the Federal Government:
"We further support the abolition of federal agencies involved in activities not delegated to the federal government under the original intent of the Constitution including, but not limited to, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; the position of Surgeon General; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Education, Commerce, and Labor. These authorities should be eliminated or, where needed, transferred to the state or local governments. We also call for the de-funding and abolition of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Public Broadcasting System."

I can't make this stuff up. I guess Bush wants to start by bankrupting the Federal government. Not only are we in 2 expensive wars (one of which he started single handedly) at a time when we're carrying the largest debt in history, but he's giving large tax-cuts and trying to make them permanent!

They also want to kick out the U.N., repeal the "Hate Crimes" laws, and limit "the criminal jurisdiction of Federal law-enforcement agencies to the high seas, federal installations, and counterfeiting operations.."
