Health care "advice" I got this week. Have you gotten any "good" ones? |
|
1. Drink diluted apple vinegar in water to change my pH and prevent a cold. Regular apple juice won't do it, neither will any other type of vinegar. (from a person who does this and doesn't "ever" get sick)
2. Vaccines last only 6-9 months. That is why you need to get an influenza vaccine every year. Yes, even childhood vaccines like MMR and tetanus only last 6-9 months. (from a person giving vaccines in a local grocery store)
#1 I politely said thank you and went on. #2 I contacted the store and pharmacy involved.
How about you? Anything to share?

3. There is always that time I almost landed in the hospital |

because of a buildup of the "good bacteria" in my system. My mother insisted I take some kind of anti-yeast medicine (5 pills a day, it was called Yeast Raiders) and take some kind of "good bacteria" medicine (2 pills a day, twice the recommended dosage, name started with Bacillo-something).
Thing was, she had me take twice the recommended dosage AND take the medicine for 6 months straight. That is not what the bottle said to do. She told me to keep taking it even after I got the worst bladder infection ever. I finally ended up doubled over in my doctor's office begging him to find out what was wrong without sending me to the hospital (couldn't afford that)...diagnosis: buildup of too much of the good bacteria in my system. Treatment: RTFI on the bottle and follow said instructions instead of doubling the dosage and taking it for several months too long.
I also grew up hearing about the 96 diseases I could get from a cat litter box. The mold in the stupid face masks she told me to wear wasn't all that great for me either.
And don't even get me started on weighing over 100 pounds being a cardinal sin. That apparently would make a 5 foot 5 inch tall woman too fat. Anytime I get hungry while I am doing work for my mother, she always sends me to the cabinet of death with all the 3 year old dried out moldy food in it. It's always some kind of granola bar or some other health food that she never ate. It's ALWAYS at least 2 years out of date, but more often, it is 3 or more years out of date...and tastes that way too. Yes, to survive around my mother, you learn to eat old food and damn near kill yourself with "herbal" remedies that make you double over and almost land in the hospital.

5. You mean the experts on DU that insist everybody can lose weight if they want to? |
|
All those people who think that because they don't have a weight problem, that all fat people sit on the couch, and stuff their faces with Twinkies? The ones that think thyroid and adrenal and other glandular problems don't exist, or they are rare?
