If you are trying to lose weight.. should you give up coffee? |
|
I am going on a diet.
I know diet soda is bad for you. Someone told me to also quit drinking coffee in the morning?

1. I think it helps to go off coffee |
|
Coffee is supposed to increase your cortisol levels which causes one to put weight on around the middle abdomen. So if you want to lose belly fat, stop drinking coffee.
Switch to green tea instead. That is supposed to help melt abdominal fat.

2. Actually, I just read an article that said coffee helps to increase your metabolism. |
|
Of course, you wouldn't want to put sugar or a lot of cream in it! :)
Good luck.

6. Coffee has few calories. It's all the fake creamers and sugar that get added. |

A tablespoon of half and half in 10 - 12 fl oz of coffee adds up to about 40 to 45 calories.
Losing weight is not all about calories, but I have heard the coffee story and I don't believe it. Caffeine does interfere with absorption of certain nutrients and vitamins so it is best taken by itself or with a little food. Take your supplements later if you use them.
All teas (not herbals - those are not made from the tea plant) contain caffeine as well.

I drink a lot of coffee, and I'm fat again, and have to go diet again. I think it does tend to raise your blood sugar levels, while keeping them down and level is better for losing weight. When I went on a medical supervised diet, I had to quit drinking alcohol and coffee (damn that was hard!) but partly that was because I was using phentermine, which raised my blood pressure, and coffee made it much worse, having both stimulants at once. Plus coffee and alcohol tend to dehydrate you and make you piss a lot, and so do diet drugs. So you have to drink a lot of water on your diet and pee a lot too. If you can afford it, I would recommend trying a medical supervised diet, with diet pills. I lost 50 pounds over 4 months. But after two years I have gained it back, mainly because I am under so much stress and eat and drink a lot. I need to start all over, sadly.

18. yes, going off caffeine can cause headaches |
|
it is tough to go through coffee withdrawal :) but green tea also has caffeine in it, so be careful with the phentermine, which is a very strong drug. you can also find green tea without caffeine, or also try decaffeinated coffee. decaf sometimes doesn't taste as good, so you might try freshly cooked beans rather than most commercial brands, plus also many decaf flavors at www.coffeefool.com it costs more but the coffee is the best

Eat fewer calories and count them. Exercise more. If you don't exercise start by walking.
But count calories and eat fewer. That's the most important thing you can do. Good Luck!

|
It is a very good way to start.
Fewer calories is the key though.

my leg cramps. One wonders whether or not it prevents heart "cramps" also. I have read it helps control blood pressure.
When my grandmother was in the nursing home, even after she had succumbed to post-hypoxic dementia, she was allowed and even encouraged to drink her coffee, as were all the old folks. FWIW.

15. I know I'm not the person you are asking this of . . . |
|
. . . but there are studies that show that artificial sweeteners do cause weight gain.
And, think about it, if they did cause weight loss - which is what people think that they do - they would be heavily advertised as doing that. They don't and they aren't.

21. About 2 years. I was slow intentionally. I had always |
|
tried to lose it fast, but always failed. Then I decided to just set my sights on 10 pounds at a time. Then holding that for a time, concentrating on keeping the junk out of my diet and walking (but I was not particularly dedicated to walking, but was getting more exercise than before). Mainly the sugar and junk carbs out of my diet controlled my appetite very well on a daily basis.
