OMFG. "Is my son gay?" App for Android phones. This is hideous...

"Is My Son Gay?" a new app offered in the Android Market, claims that it can determine whether or not your son is gay in an updated version of the classic game of "20 questions."

The controversial app (which sells for $2.68) prompts users to answer 20 questions about their son. It enquires "does your son dress up nicely?" or "does he pay close attention to his outfits and brand names."

Other questions include:

"Does he read the sports page in the newspaper?"

"Does he like musical comedies?"

"Is he a fan of divas (Madonna, Britney Spears)?"

"Does he spend a long time in the bathroom?"

"Was he shy as a child?"

Anyone stupid enough to believe this acid test will do anything but cement long held fallacies is beyond reason. I'm straight as can be, but if my dad had that tool back in the day, I'm sure my birthday presents would have been more on the pink and fluffy side. In fact, after reading that list of qualifiers, maybe I should reavaluate my 50+ years of marriages, children, and lost fortunes on hot chicks (I kid).

Thank goodness they at least give the advice to accept instead of convert, but idiots who use this app are likely to do what they feel right anyway. No one should sponsor or host this nonsense for fear of what some religious redneck may do if he wrongly (or even correctly) suspects his son is gay. I guess this is the downside of the high tech universe in which we live today.

3. Well I know several men that would test gay...

but, I doubt they are. They might be, but most are/have been married and most have children and one in particular seems to only try to impress women, which doesn't exactly make my gaydar go off. I wouldn't be surprised if the reverse is also true that a lot of gay men would look straight according to the test...in the end the only one that really knows is the man himself.

8. This reminds me of a story I heard years ago in a psych eval class.

Seems the son of a minister caught his son with porn and was worried his son was a "pervert". The therapist responded it was not unusual for adolescent males to satisfy curiosity with "girly porn" (pictures of nude women). This was not any consolation. After what amounted to a prolonged tirade the therapist stated given the boys choice of pornography he was "probably" not a homosexual just leave him alone given the ministers response his son would never again bring any such literature into the house. After several previous sessions the minister seemed to be satisfied and never returned. I have told this story to several gay friends to their amusement. Two friends responded they had "girly porn" when they were adolescents. Stereotypes are as stupid as homophobia.
