Question For The Queers On DU About Online Chatting.... |
|
Do you chat online?
Is there somewhere to chat online that isn't total hardcore serious topics, or conversely not geared towards the "3 D's"?
I often chat on Bear sites, but I am wearing thin with the questions like:
How Big Is Your Cockatoo?
Are You An Acrobat?
Or, would You Mind If I Brought A U-Haul To Our First Date?

tell me what's behind your self-identification as "queer" and your casual usage of said adjective for gay folk, which for many is seen right up there in context with the "N" word......I know there's a story there and I am curious; thanks

There is no story.....
Queer to me is "all inclusive", and all the letters to define the community at large (GLBTQI) have turned into alphabet soup..... and better to re-claim the word... I think....
Many on here WILL NOT AGREE WITH ME ON THIS ISSUE....
But they will also blithely watch something like "A Queer Eye For The Straight Guy"...
... and "thankfully", I was talking to another "Gay Folk" in the very progressive area I live in whom also identifies as "Queer" as she walked by my home.....
The word "Queer" is being reclaimed by the community, no matter how squeamish it makes others....
Ok, now back to the topic this thread was about...

I gave up a long time ago trying to have "chats" with queer guys. First of all, they don't like to talk to older guys, so that pretty much left me out too. It seems the chat rooms only have one thing in mind............and I only wanted to chat with people about actual things going on in the world. Obviously that wasn't the place to chat about world or local events, or even cooking. I just chat with myself now......much more enjoyable.........:)

15. Heh, unless you are on a Bear site, then they won't talk to you if you are a twink. |
|
It often saddens me when I think about how much stereotyping, and ostracizing goes on within our own community. :(
How many Lesbians there are who hate men.. all men.. even gay men. how many gay men hate women..all women.. even lesbians.. How the young/thin 'twinks' have disdain for our older brothers and sisters, or our heavier brothers and sisters. How man 'bears' i've known who have nothing but contempt for twinks, or even 'chubs' How many 'gays' badmouth and have contempt for Transgenders. butches who hate fems, fems who hate butches.. etc.. etc.. etc...
You would think that with so many out there hating us, wanting to trample our rights, hell in many cases even wanting to KILL us, that we'd be a bit more united, and much more accepting of people who differ from ourselves.

... and I would be lying if I didn't say I see myself in that list (to a point).....
I think we all have biases... whether we understand that about ourselves, or not (eg)"Birds Of The Same Feather, Flock Together.....
But you are right that "hating" is sad.....

21. I think it depends on what you mean by biases. |
|
There's a big difference, imho, between socializing and who you have sexual attraction to.
For example, from my earliest years of sexual development, I've been attracted to older, stocky male types. The typical young smooth 'pretty boy' type has never been my interest, even when I was one. I can appreciate their beauty, just as i can appreciate the beauty of of women, but there is no attraction.
That doesn't mean I dislike 'twink' types. For me, there is a difference between who I would persue sexually, and who I will be friends with. Who I'd persue sexually (if I wasn't already lucky enough to be married to the greatest man in the world LOL) is limited. Not limited by stereotypes, or pre-judgements based on appearance, but limited by what I find attractive to my personal tastes.. for me it is and always has been older, stocky men. But, when it comes to friendships, or social settings, the only limitation is personality.. If I find their personality offensive, odious, or obnoxious our contact is going to be short lived.

12. I posted a question to the GLBTQI community in |
|
"The Lounge" thread on this site one night and had the best feedback I've ever had here at DU. You might want to try posting there and see if you meet some nice people.
Good Luck.

Because I find that I need a certain chemistry with other guys that I can only determine from meeting in person (at bars or other places).
I do agree with your notion that gay people online just want to find sex partners. That's pretty standard in person, too. I'm still not sure I know if that's due to being gay or being male, or part of the human condition, regardless of gender, but it can sometimes get me down, because I don't understand that obsession/compulsion.

I got tired, besides I always have partner in the next room. Also, I'd have to learn how to lose 30 or40 years, At 66, they are not interested
