Under Catholic Doctrine, Ex-communications means you can Not take Communion, but you still are expected to go to Church. It is a limit on interaction, but not a complete ban on interaction. you can still buy and Sell, plant and sow, make things etc, it is communication that is limited, and then only to show you are no longer a member in good standing in the Community.

isn't being run by some asshole. (I've become very, very anti-clerical in recent years, does it show?) There are a few older priests from Vatican II still left here and there. I don't know what the rest of us will do when they're gone.

There's no point in being upset being kicked out of a "club" whose leaders have no claim to any kind of higher morality than anyone else, and believe me, the Catholic Church gave that up a looooooong time ago.
