1. Other: Depressed as Hell

Seriously. Public school educators are facing a Kobayashi Maru. There is absolutely no way to win. We can vote for the Democratic candidate, who appears determined to de-professionalize teaching and dismantle public schools. We can vote for a Republican candidate who would most likely do the same. Or we can refrain from voting, in which case we would still face abuse from arrogant non-educators mucking up public education because they believe they know more about teaching and learning than the people who live and breathe it.

Some days, I can completely understand why Rigoberto Ruelas jumped off that bridge. There truly seems to be no hope whatsoever.

2. the future for public school teachers in 15 years ----->

local schools = minmum wage pay with no union, semi private corporate schools = prescreened and selected students and higher pay but no job security. Meanwhile all the political prostitutes currently pushing the race to the top will be raking in cash and benefits as kickbacks from their corporate masters as thanks for making it all possible.

4. I'll vote; I always do. But....

I will do so with considerably less enthusiasm and hopefulness than in 2008.

What a disappointment these past two years have been for educators. Not that we didn't see it coming-- I just didn't expect it to be this bad so soon.

5. I'll support a DEM primary challenge, almost certainly.

Assuming Obama survives the nominating process, all bets are off.

Depends on who the GOP nominates ( Obama IS GOP... on education, anyway).

I may "stay the course" or skip the pres election entirely.

all lose in 2012 when the Insane GOP candidate wins. His base will desert him, just like it did last month. He's taking them for granted.

I feel I must vote as an expression of citizenship.

Rarely have I felt this cynical about whether my vote mattered for these reasons:

1) I live in red state hell so my vote will be cancelled many times over by the neoLibertarians

2) if I vote Dem, well, what is the difference in terms of education policy? RttT is NCLB on steroids. What would Palin or Romney or Huckster do differently about education? Eliminate the Dept. of Education? Would that be a bad thing?

3) What would be the difference in terms of anything else? Unending wars, giving into Wall Street, union busting. What's the differnce?
