How Come We Are a Nation of Idiots? |
|
According to the subhead on a front page story in today’s Yuma Sun – 27 percent of the residents in the county- 18,000 over the age of 25 – have no documented education past the 9th grade.
And you “bring her on” DUers scoff at the thought that Sarah Palin could be our next president.

2. Technically, I'm in that group. I dropped out of HS after 3 months. |
|
However, I don't know if that "documented education" includes GEDs.

16. 43% of the population of yuma county reports speaking spanish at home. |
|
i don't think it's a big leap to surmise that a county on the us-mexico border with a high percent of folks speaking spanish at home has a high percent of recent immigrants from mexico, which explains the finding that 1/4 have no documented HS graduation.
but that says nothing about the us as a whole. nor does it mean that the people of yuma county, or the people of the us, are idiots.

Yep. The statistic says little to nothing about the nation as a whole.

3. I don't scoff at the notion of a President Palin |
|
I think it's highly likely-and I need help with plans when it happens so I'm not living on the streets of Toronto. Any advice?

7. I wish i could give you some advice but it is hard to be practical in these times |
|
when I just saw 5 seasoned, qualified Hispanic politicians in the county defeated by Tea Party people and our Progressive state Senator - health care champion - outed by the Tea Party chairman. I'm pretty discouraged right now!
Congressman Raul Grijalva lost here, too and the TPers here have been on his butt ever since.

It's like they just read his name "Hussin" and decided that he was a "Muslim".

President Obama won over 66 million votes in 2008, the most ever. The education levels have not changed by much in the last two years, I don't think. If Palin wins, it isn't because everyone in the intervening time got dumber.
