Have a question on this drug importation thing - Can a US citizen still go to Canada,
purchase prescription drugs and bring them back into the US? Coming back into the US a few weeks ago from Mexico, customs asked us if we were bringing in any drugs - we weren't.

1. Canadians are getting a bit anal at the border because of the Olympics.
They don't like you bringing stuff into their country or taking it out if it violates laws. I think this might be one of those situations. Also, wouldn't you have to have a Canadian doctor write you a prescription?

2. buying drugs in canada
We are Canadians living in US - have no drug coverage. We order our drugs from an internet site & they are shipped here from Canada. Or since we're close enough to the border, we have taken prescriptions to Vancouver to be filled. Our friend here is the pharmacist - i asked about the 'seniors' who live here. She says they all get their drugs from Canada.

3. What from I have been hearing about customs with the Mohawk
Indians at Akwesasne - Hogansburg, New York, Canadian customs are anal about alot of things. They have become downright vicious!!! Things have sure changed since I was a kid up in that area in the 1940s.

5. here's the law

generally speaking you are ok with a 90 day supply of a US approved drug, and if you have a script

they usually don't care about a script with stuff like codeine cough syrup, but CAN insist if you are a jerk

4. legally yes,
as long as it's a 90 day supply (or less) of drugs that are NOT controlled substances.

they may be Rx, but cannot be controlled substances.

the drug must be approved for use in the US. (although there is a way to get a waiver for this)

technically, one must have a valid US prescription for it.

however... this is routinely overlooked for drugs that are not deemed a public health hazard

e.g. codeine cough syrup from canada (and stuff like that)

customs officers have a fair bit of discretion there.

6. Thanks for the info - only thing I get in Mexico is amoxicillin. Get all my blood pressure pills
etc. from the Wal-Mart up the street at great prices.

7. stuff like that
birth control pills, penicillin, etc. that have NO potential for abuse, they literally could not care less about.

this is the code...

it actually has specific provisions with canada, different from mexico iirc, but if you are talking stuff like that, you are totally fine

just make sure you declare it.

8. funny funny
I live in a small border town on Tx and Mex border and you should see all the old snowbirds, buying meds like they are going out of style, then ups them back up north like crazy viagra and cialis and all the e.d. drugs and of course all the heart medication and xanax and that kinda stuff too!!
our customs agents never check, you just say you bought some antibiotics and other medicine show them the bag and they wave you through!!!
