4. We did some studies like that in college |
|
50 joints a day was outside of the budget of our study.
Blood circulating through the brain!? the horror!
Honestly, the guy smoked 50 J's per day, I would expect bigger problems. 50 J's of anything - tobacco, corn silk, whatever should put more strain on your body than that.

that's over 2 joints an hour! He's have to be sparking every minute of every day. The bullshit detector is off the charts on this one.

there are many people who smoke 2-3 packs of cigarettes per day, thats 40-60 cigarettes. so it is possible.

7. I'm Actually Glad They've Dropped the More Bizarre Claims |
|
They even had that series of ads showing unemployed stoners living at home with voice-over saying "If you smoke marijuana, nothing will happen to you. Nothing."
The warnings tend to be pretty lame. Makes blood rush to the brain -- is that supposed to scare people straight?

9. one sentence from the article: |
|
"The resistance to blood flow of light and moderate users - who usually smoked an average of 11 and 44 joints per week, respectively - was starting to return to normal."
I'm working on my PhD in toxicology right now, and just think it's worth a reminder that the founding principle of toxicology was "All substances are poisons; there is none which is not a poison. The right dose differentiates a poison…." Paracelsus (1493-1541)
Smoke is simply not good for you. There's no denying that, but there is an issue of scale - 44 joints per week is no 'moderate' user, sorry. If they call 44 joints is a moderate user, what do these authors take as a "heavy user"? Look here: "But there was no improvement observed in the heavy users, who smoked an average of 131 joints per week."
I don't think I've ever even *met* someone who regularly smokes a hundred joints a week. It's not what we call "clinically relevant".

And they will tell you that WEEKLY use is considered heavy by the medical establishment!
44 joints per week???? I couldn't function on that at ALL.

12. And the *AVERAGE* of Heavy Users Was 131 ??? |
|
:wtf:
So, for every 45-a-week user, there had to be a 217-a-week user to result in an average of 131?
That's 31 joints per day, or almost two for every waking hour. Is that even possible?
I think the Paracelsus quote is the key. It's another way of lying without lying.

Pretty obvious to any average ape that smoking this much of anything leads to adverse consequences. So the point is just more of the same old drug war propaganda.

15. My brain tells me something different |
|
A couple of bong loads a day, every day for the past five years doesn't seem to have affected my cognitive abilities.
But I exercise, eat organic food, drink R/O water exclusively, get enough sleep and don't watch any television news.
