Im on the fence when it comes to legalizing pot. |
|
Mostly because Im worried that the price I pay (in actual money)is going to skyrocket because of taxes like cigarettes have. Other than that, I am all for it!!!! Does anyone else share my concern?

1. Why Wouldn't A Pack Of Weed Cigs Cost The Same As Tobacco Cigs? |
|
Even at 5 times the price of tobacco, it would be a good deal!

2. Yeah, but would it be quality weed? |
|
or "government grown" that would probably be so mild as to not have any effect. I can get good BC or Humboldt bud for a reasonable price. I feel that the price for the "good" stuff would put it out of my reach.

the dispensaries in California are serving up tons of high quality marijuana at about the same prices as the black market. If it does become legal in the rest of the country, I don't think that the govt. would grow it's own marijuana. They would more than likely purchase it from licensed growers at wholesale cost, then mark it up and add taxes at retail.

9. Has anybody thought of this commodity as a commodity? |
|
I stumbled on this drug policy thread and I'm glad. Hey, ya'll. :hi:
Personally, I look forward to the day pot is legalized! Not just because it makes more sense as drug of choice. (many, many many years ago, I smoked), but due to its other roles as a commodity. Now, I have personal concerns now as a respiratory therapist about anything that contributes to obstructive lung disease, but I also took care of my share of closed head injury patients on ventilators and gun shot wounds with sucking chest wounds due to their use of ETOH. But, I digress... look at all the other byproducts of hemp....please!
Nutritional seed benefit Medicinal benefit when concentrated (you must have caught that series on YouTube) plant fiber for building and clothing crop rotation in the south (to replace tobacco, for example)
Personally, I'd expect to pay way more in price for a "pack of weed" because it would take a person more time to consume it. Jesus, you have to function, and then ponder the universe around a fire with friends and a doobie on the OFF time, or we'd all be fucking loosers.
Alice B Token brownies aside, I think marijuana makes a good crop for many reasons, certainly tax the shit out of it. We've way more to gain by legalizing it, but how about a real business plan?
Excuse my rant, if this has been covered here before. I'll try to visit more often.

10. i can't think of any product |
|
that became more expensive when it went from illegal to legal status.
so, historically speaking, it's a baseless worry.
and if they taxed it , you could always grow it yourself.
they would have to price and tax it low enough so that it would not incentivize people to grow their own.
most people don't, for example, grow their own tobacco (even in climates where it's optimal), because the hassle, cost, etc. is seen as more costly than buying them prepackaged (plus, people are lazy and like convenience).
few people homebrew, even though it is now legal.
now pot is exceptionally easy to grow, but even so if commercially produced pot was cheap enough, most people would opt for the 7-11 vs. growing their own.
so, in order to make money, corporations would have to price competitively.

Last week when the president's administration said there was a medical use ; they effectively illuminated the laws against medical marijuana.

13. I would love nothing more than to be able to pick up a pack of "jazz cigarettes" at the gas station |
|
And skip the hassle of finding "a guy" who, in my experience, is almost always unreliable and provided product of varying quality.
