Abortion/Birth Control Hypocrites |
|
My niece's friend ,16, got drunk at a graduation party and had sex with a young man.
No birth control, didn't know the fellow very well.
Oh...and she didn't plan on telling anyone...but one of her friends told her older sister and the older sister told their mother.
Her parents are fiercely anti-abortion catholics...BUT..they promptly took her to a family planning center and got her the morning after pill.
Same parents ridiculed my niece about her support of Kerry...if I was a spiteful person I would call the parish priest and tell on the parents....but I am not that kind of person.

1. Standing by your principles |

is all well and good, but "not when it's MY family we're talking about."
Not surprising, really. I'm sure this sort of thing happens all too often.

8. And they get to decide for everyone else, too |
|
This is why the right to privacy comes in. They are not nor should they be qualified to approve medical procedures for people they don't even know.
Will they watch your kid when you have to work three jobs to support it? No.
Will they adopt your kid when they intimidate and guilt you from going into the clinic to discuss ALL of your options? No.
Will they take care of the already born children of yours when they yammer about how you shouldn't abort and yet your life is in danger? No way.
Will they be liable if you die in childbirth following an ectopic pregnancy? Hell no.

3. Thank God there was still a family planning center |
|
available! In my state, they are few and far between, and I'm not sure if it's happened yet, but the Rethug legislature is/was trying to make the morning after pill illegal! :grr:
You know, it's folks like those parents who are going to have to wake up to the realization that the Rethugs that they support are not just planning on making abortion and birth control unavailable for poor girls, they plan on making it unavailable for their daughters, too! Once they can't protect their daughters from the consequences of their mistakes, then maybe, just maybe, the tenor of this b.s. will change!

4. Mail them Pro-Choice gear |
|
T-shirts, buttons, patches. Put (magnetic) pro-choice bumper stickers on their car, especially if they have pro-life stickers there. Ask them why they aren't proud of their choice, and thankful they had the ability to make that choice?

5. You said they are anti-abortion |
|
not anti-birth control. The morning after pill is birth control.
Are they opposed to birth control as well? (if not, the hypocrites charge may be unfounded)
It's important not to fall into their trap of labeling a birth control pill as the equivalent of an abortion.

Told a great story once about her time working at a women's clinic that had a regular cadre of Fetus People outside protesting every day, including a woman and her teenage daughter. One day, into the clinic walks the pair of them because the girl had gotten pregnant. Next day, they're back on the picket line screaming "Babykiller" at other women.
There's a great line about a Republican is just a conservative whose 14-year-old daughter hasn't gotten pregnant.
