Sweetness would have been 57 years old today. |

Football may be back, but we won't be seeing anyone like this again for a long time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAxGsYwWhGo&feature=share

Both my favorite players were Bears, Payton on offense and Butkus on defense.

I am, though, a Bears fan. So, my isn't a surprise. A fan of another team having two favorite players from another team, and then both of them Bears is.
I never would have guessed. GAC

8. I like the Bears, and root for them over anyone but the Pats. |

Looking at things objectively, it's hard to think of many players that could be above these two, though my father says Gayle Sayers is his favorite player, and that he was even better than Payton (I believe he averaged 6.2 yards per carry one year, which is pretty sick).

9. I'm Old Enought TO Remember Sayers |

He couldn't do the dirty work like Payton. IMO, there was never a star running back who understood and executed blocking schemes like Walter. In the famous "Rollerdome" game, where McMahon came off the bench to throw 3 touchdowns in 3 possessions, the second one was set up when Payton decleated a blitzing linebacker. He was supposed to be rolling away for the check-off, and he saw something so instead he blasted right toward the hole and leveled a linebacker. Got never got near McMahon and another long TD.
But Sayers, before he got hurt, was like catching an eel. Realistically, how good does one have to be to make the HoF while only playing 6 years? GAC
