It's official...Giants now have worst home offense in over a century..
Giants pitchers now know how their predecessors felt in that memorable season of '02.

That would be 1902. Not the World Series season of 2002.

Monday was another day of minimum production for the Giants' offense, with Pablo Sandoval collecting three of the team's four hits through eight innings. The Giants "broke out" in the ninth with two more hits but fell 5-3 to the Padres at China Basin.

For the first time since 1902, the Giants have failed to score more than six runs in 38 straight home games (their entire 2011 home schedule to date). Those '02 Giants, the only other outfit with a streak like that in franchise history, finished 53 1/2 games out of first place.

Sure they've had major injuries, but watching this team hit is just a terribly frustrating experience. The Giants are currently 27th in runs scored, 25th in BA, and 23rd in team OBP..According to baseball's Pythagorean theorem, the 10 games over .500 first place Giants should be only 44-42 and are heading for an 86-87 win season.

Thankfully, they're in what looks to be a weak NL West this year...

1. And the irony is that Sandoval took hitting lessons from...
Barry Bonds.

BTW, Brandon Belt was just promoted to AAA in his rehab stint. Maybe we'll see a difference when he rejoins the team. Freddy Sanchez could be back in August. Just hang in there...

3. Not surprised at all.
Offensively, the Giants are a VERY bad team, and losing Posey, one of their very few "legit" hitters was a devastating blow. If they can fight their way to the playoffs, they can make a run with their great pitching and some timely hitting (as they did last year), but you're never a shoo-in to make the playoffs with such a bad offense even in a weak division. As I predicted at the beginning of the year, and still think will be true, the Giants will have, by far, the best pitching staff watching the playoffs on TV if they don't make a move for some batS (Plural, they'll need at least two).

4. Well, you can always take comfort in the fact
that the Padres offense is even worse. They lost to the Dodgers tonight 1-0 after the leaving the bases loaded in the ninth with nobody out.
