Why so much whining after Mexico beat the US at the Gold Cup
the CONCACAF championship. Geez the US led 2-0 and Mexico won 4-2.
That poor defense not politics. All the cussing about the award ceremony in Spanish (in the US) is useless. Mexico played the better football.

1. Meh. They whine just as badly when we win.
That's just part and parcel of a rivalry as fierce as we have. For the time those two teams are on the pitch I'm the most rabid nationalist on Earth. ;)

I'm going through articles about 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup and not finding any type of Bryan Stow incidents related to it.

35. I was IN Mexico when we won in 2007.
Nothing violent that I remember. People were pissed, sure. But American fans of (insert team) get pissed when their team loses.

I am amazed the US came up with a couple of goals. It was a wild and very entertaining game.

5. Our back line was terrible.
If losing Cherundolo can kill us that badly then we need to rethink our entire defensive lineup.

Soccer has and always will be a minor sport here. Like the vast majority of the sports public if isn't football, baseball or basketball I'm not interested.

8. It wasn't one of Tim Howard's better games....
I mean, what was he doing coming out of his net and flopping around on that 4th goal?

He didn't exactly distinguish himself with his remarks afterwards either..

"I think it was a... disgrace that the entire post match ceremony was in Spanish. You bet your ass, if we were in Mexico City the ceremony would not be all in English. CONCACAF should be ashamed of themselves."

11. Howard was let down by his defense.
Bornstein in particular should never see the inside of a USA locker room again -- dire, dire play. Timmy did what he could in the face of a collapsed defense after 'Dolo was taken off.

His post-game remarks didn't bother me.

22. Absolutely right.
Actually, both teams' defense was atrocious...the US was just that much worse in that regard. Against either team, a side like Spain or the Netherlands would have scored ten goals.

21. Not from me
I'm impressed US was able to get the first two goals. I knew it was a matter of time before Mexico would pull and stay ahead.

What is the whining about exactly? It seemed like the calls were fair if not very lenient for both teams.

28. Should've been 3-2.
Just because a player doesn't touch the ball, doesn't mean he's not involved in the play. So one goal should have been called offsides.

Bornstein is a horrible defender, Mexico exploited him all day.

31. No, Chicharito was not involved in the play by Dos Santos

but had he nudged the spinning ball into goal, then he would have been offside.

It was quick thinking by "the little pea," who is now a star for Man U.

34. Its the refs discretion - its just those calls never go to the Americans
It looks like Chicharito makes contact and gains distance with the US defender into an offside position when the Dos Santos pass is made to him. He never gets a touch on it because it is deflected back by the US defender, Guardado puts back the deflection, which Chicharito wisely does not touch.
Because he does not get a touch on that pass from Dos Santos, its the ref's discretion whether he was part of the play, whether Mexico gained advantage by Chicarito's position. I would argue Mexico does get advantage, as the US defends the pass, which Guardado puts past Howard.

Really, the call can go either way - and I wouldn't claim it changed the outcome - just typical that the US really never gets a call when the ref could go either way.

Mexico made some young mistakes, but at their stars are all so young, they're going to dominate that region for years.

30. Mickey mouse tournament
The only proper opposition for the US is Mexico.

The US should be invited to the Copa America, like Mexico and bizarrely Japan was.

Incidentally, they were invited in Japan's stead.
