If you don't get him, you don't get him. No one can tell you his appeal.

4. Go listen to every one of his albums, |
|
5 times each starting with the first one, before going on to the next and actually LISTEN to what he says. His life story is in there and it's as real as it gets. Far too many people grew up the same way and we can relate. Here is one select verse. You should listen to the song. Dream on.
They say music can alter moods and talk to you But can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I’ll get sued
See what these kids do, is hear about us toting pistols And they want to get one, cos they think the shit's cool
Not knowin' we're really just protectin' ourselves We entertainers; of course this shit's affecting our selves You ignoramus.
but music is reflection of self, we just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail It's fucked up ain't it, how we can come from practically nothin' To bein' able to have any fuckin' thing that we wanted
It's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing Except for a dream and a fucking rap magazine
Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long Idolize their favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives So they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die
Till they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe We're nothing to you, but we're the fuckin' shit in their eyes
That's why we seize the moment, and try to freeze it and own it Squeeze it and hold it, 'cos we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone Just let our spirits live on, through the lyrics that you hear in our songs.

5. That was a damned good answer. |

Thanks. I prefer Mos Def myself, but you've enlightened me. I liked Eight Mile, but generally avoid Slim. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

His life and how he has had it rough?
My arcitle explained it right, he is the only gangsta rapper in hisotry that has hired the same image consulting firm as dick cheney.

9. Stay away from rap then. |
|
If in-your-face loosely autobiographical stories don't do it for you, then rap ain't your thing, baby.

But I've been a metal-head for decades, and I'm well familiar with people not liking or getting my music, or even admitting that it is music. I've got a young teen at home who swears if I just listen to Justin Bieber I'd change my mind about him. I've tried telling her about David Cassidy and Bobby Shermman (hell, that Bieber kid's even got the same haircut) and Lief Garrett and the Johnny Bravo episode of The Brady Bunch, but there's no convincing her otherwise.
The people who like eminem, or bieber, or my current fave Julie Christmas (you call that singing? screaming is what I call it! now get off my lawn!) well they are allowed to like what they like. That's just the way it is I'm afraid.
I try not to get all worked up for the grammys anyway. Awards for art are lame.
