Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson stage 'high-frequency' dog concert

US rock star Lou Reed and his artist wife Laurie Anderson are to stage a "high-frequency concert" for canines in Australia. Music for Dogs, to be held outside the Sydney Opera House, is billed as "an inter-species social gathering on a scale never seen before in Australia". The bizarre recital in June will be largely inaudible to the human ear.

The couple said they have experience making music for at least one dog - their rat terrier, Lollabelle. "She likes things with a lot of smoothness but with beats in them,'' Ms Anderson told the Sydney Morning Herald. She said the inspiration for the performance at the Vivid Live festival in Sydney came while she was backstage at an event and thought: "Wouldn't it be great, if you were playing a concert and you look out and you see all dogs?"

The show, created by Ms Anderson, will last for 20 minutes as she says "dogs don't have a giant concentration span". The sounds will be played at high frequency like a dog whistle, setting dogs' ears twitching but barely audible to their owners. It is billed in the festival programme as "an absolute must for any dog and their two-legged friends".

I saw both Jimi Hendricks and The Who there in 1967. It's a gorgeous small hall with perfect acoustics. I remember both of those incredible shows like they were yesterday.

I saw Laurie Anderson at the Warner Theater in DC in the mid '80s. It was a homecoming for me as I was the stage manager there in the mid 70s.

I know they also like the screensaver on my aunt's DVD player. Sunday Girl especially loves it. It is the letters D V D in an oval shape that moves all around the screen and changes colors. She loves that. She also loves listening to Blondie. She's named after a Blondie song and answers to that song. She has since she was a young kitten. Blondie is her favorite of all, but she likes Lou Reed too. She hates Courtney Love. Her ears flatten when I used to play Courtney Love. I don't do that any more, lol.

I used to have a dog that hated country music with a passion. He would growl and bark his "stop that!" bark when country music would come on in a movie or something.

Yogi just watched The Goonies with me last night. He also likes CSI: Miami when they have blonde haired women dancing. He loves blonde women and women in general. He perks up when he sees pole dancing, especially.

15. Laurie and Lou are a virus from outer space

I've seen Laurie in venues small and large, in shows solo and with other musicians, other poets. I've seen her mostly tell stories, seen her mostly play music. I've attended some of her art installations as well. If I had to pick just one artist, out of all artists, like a Desert Island Artist, that would be Laurie Anderson.
Years ago, I told a friend I was going to see Laurie Anderson's concert that night. He looked at me oddly. "Burt Reynold's wife? From WKRP? She gives concerts?"
