Oregonian: Boy told father gun just 'went off;' hit Yashanee

The Oregonian newspaper reported Thursday that it had obtained a court document that says 16-year-old Parrish Bennette Jr. told his father that his gun just "went off" and killed 14-year-old Yashanee Vaughn.

Yashanee's body has yet to be found.

According to that document, the younger Bennette denied making the statements when interviewed by detectives in March.

The newspaper's article sparked a 9:30 p.m. news conference by Yashanee Vaughn’s family. They said they already knew about the actual details but were surprised to see that some of the names in the court documents were reported by The Oregonian.
