CARBONDALE, Ill. Five buildings on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale were evacuated yesterday after a professor reported a suspicious package in a classroom.
The buildings were emptied for about an hour before authorities determined that the package was a bag of concrete mixture.
A student reportedly left the 60-pound bag in a classroom for a presentation later in the day.
Students were back in class by about noon.
S-I-U Interim Chancellor John Dunn says authorities responded efficiently to the call.
Following last week's shooting on the Virginia Tech campus, S-I-U President Glenn Poshard called in campus security officials to review emergency plans.
