Students and staff members at Lee’s Summit High School have resumed normal activities today after earlier being placed on lockdown while authorities investigated a suspicious briefcase.
After examining and opening the briefcase, police determined it contained papers and other personal items.
The incident began before 9 a.m. when a school official noticed a briefcase left alone in a student area. Nobody claimed the briefcase, which had been secured with duct-tape.
A school administrator picked it up and carried it to the parking lot before police arrived.
Police ordered the students to remain in their classes until they could determine what was in the briefcase.
Officers eventually used high-pressured water to force the briefcase open. The lockdown lasted about 90 minutes.
