IRVINE – A suspicious package found stuffed in an ATM at the Irvine Civic Center this morning prompted the sheriff's bomb squad to be called out but turned out to be nothing more than a stack of papers.

A city employee found the small envelope with handwriting and scribbles crammed into the machine's receipt dispenser just before 9 a.m., Irvine police Lt. Rick Handfield said. A portion of the Civic Center was cordoned off while members of the bomb squad X-rayed and opened the envelope.
No one was evacuated from the area and people doing business at City Hall were rerouted to another entrance.
The package was determined not to be a threat about 10:45 a.m.
"Everything is back to normal," Handfield said. "We want to make sure that it wasn't anything.
