3. The forum title may be a bit confusing |
|
If someone didn't know better, he or she might conclude that this is a place where conservatives can post.

17. Well, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but |
|
you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. "Fool me once . . . shame on you. Fool me twice . . . you'll never fool me again."
They need to get back under the rocks they slid out from under and hope when they slide back out that Bush is out of office and clearing brush on his ranch with that sissy-looking saw. Idiot doesn't realize if he used a bigger saw, not as much work. But, again, he is an idiot.

|
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 10:11 PM by Benjamin
I like a good debate but the republican sheep just don't have any valid arguments. They just lie and you wind up showing them that they are lying, rather than having an honest debate, so what's the point? I like this place. I may not agree with everything everyone says here, but at least there are some honest debates.

because of the way it was labeled. I believe some here may have thought I was a republican, conservative, freeper, repug,etc... which I am not.

16. I've been trying to figure that out myself since it started because the |

posters are usually new users with not to many posts.
Glad to know it is for the Freakers to post on DU. They sure as Hell won't allow anything posted on their boards regarding their G-d.

18. Not philosophical thread? |
|
Why is there no philosophical topic thread, so that we might throw around various view points? I have found liberal theory quite interesting, but would like to openly debate some of its arguments. I have run up against some savvy conservatives who can present some compelling ideas.
Any thoughts?

19. Define "Conservative". What kind of "conservative" are you? |
|
In some senses I am very conservative. Fiscally I am conservative and I want the government to be able to balance the budget, unlike this slash-n-dash one that we have running (down) the country. So if you're into conservative economics you're among friends.
I am conservative in terms of military policy. I'd rather conserve the military and make sure that we pick our battles carefully. In terms of looking after our military, I also value the conservation of our veterans; to make sure that they aren't homeless, hungry, etc.
I am conservative in terms of the education that we give our children. Conservative in that they need to be all taught the basic skills in the right way. We don't need to have any illiterate or innumerate people in the country (given normal intelligence).
I am conservative in family values. Children need parents; it's not the governments job to house and feed the abandoned children of life. It may seem progressive but I actually think it's better that a single parent or even (shock horror) a same-sex couple look after a child than being in a foster home.
I am conservative in terms of welfare. Compassionate but conservative. For those who can't truly work, those people need to be supported. For those who can work and there is work, then the welfare system needs to be designed in such a way to support them in getting a job and to ensure they keep a roof over their head, food on the table, and essential bills paid (electric, water, etc).
If you're into this brand of conservatism, you're with friends. If you're with the other kind of conservatism where schools are dumbed down, where children are still in foster homes and orphanages rather than worthy parents, where the military is sent to fight useless wars, where money is spent friviously on bridges to nowhere... sorry that's not my brand of conservatism.
Mark.

24. In a way those are not conservative ideas. |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 12:22 PM by djohnson
Those are just aspects of competency in government.
I think Democrats need NOT delude themselves into thinking they are the conservative party.
Democrats are competent, not conservative.
I'm no expert, but this is the way i see it.

28. nope..thats Free Republic you're thinking of |
|
you probably already know that now though.
I like a good debate. Sometimes, I even like debating against ignorant people who's only argument is either "he lyk protects uz frum tha terruristssss!!" or "fuck u u stuuuuupidd liberulll!!!". The ignorance of the republicans is really bad in Mississippi.
No one loves bush exept for lunitics and his wife (don't know about the latter though).
