Poll question: Was 9/11 "the defining moment in your life?" |
|
According to Pickles, "9/11 was the defining moment in ALL our lives."
Oh, really?
How do you feel about that? Vote below:

6. that doesn't rank in the top 1000 defining moments of my life... |
|
Ones that do rank pretty high, in no particular order... Discovering "The Sex" (That was a great discovery) Discovering cartoons Discovering comic books The birth of my son Meeting my husband My mother's death Learning how to use Photoshop Learning how to use Flash Discovering shows by Joss Whedon
damn... there are a lot of them and 9/11 isn't anywhere in there

Meeting my wife and becoming a father are by far the defining moments "In My Life", to borrow a title from Lennon.

10. 1. Getting my ass back to school |
|
and paying for it myself.
2. Finding reprehensor and knowing that I was not a freak by looking for real and lasting love. (Made me realize I had only dated immature idiots up til then)
3. Finally letting my mother know I was the boss of my own life, and making her realize that she needed me more than I needed her. (My mom is a major league control freak)
Nope...no 9/11. Yes, it freaked me out, and scared the crap out of me for awhile, but it didn't DEFINE anything, other than the need to change our government toute de suite.

|
when I first picked up Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" and saw a Wellstone speech on TV.

Not even close. Cant see my self ever wanting to party with the Pickles.
For me it was things like learning to play mandolin, meeting my second wife, joining the navy, encountering bluegrass music, working for Apple Computer for 7 wonderful years.... seeing the ocean for the first time...meeting Alan Ginsberg, hearing Ken Keasey talk, seeing a triple expansion steam engine in operation, seeing the Grateful Dead, and flying in an AT-6G. No way I'd EVER look at 9/11 was defining. Doing my best to ingore it. live my life in spite of it.

15. The defining moment of my life was the day I found out that I was |
|
expecting my first child...after deciding that I did not want to have kids. It changed who I am. I am sure 9/11 has unfortunately, in a profound way, defined the lives of those most directly tied to it. Personally, I hope Laura's "true" defining moment happened on that day when her reckless driving caused the death of another human being.

Important events for causing nagging doubts about my political understanding of the world where the first gulf war, and the second. 9/11 was rather a wake-up call that something was happening beyond my radar screen, but not any more.

defining moment in my life was the lynching of Matthew Shepard. From that point on, I knew that if left to their own devices, the GOPers would allow the killings of more gay Americans to continue
