Keith O is 'Powerful' and 'Right On' WOW!!! |
|
First of all, I do not have cable news but I found a video tape of Keith’s message to Shirley Sherrod, the President and the rest of us. Second of all, my computer is about in the same as lousy condition as my TV and I endured the nine plus minutes starts and stops of conversation complete with the whirling circle that goes with cheap computer connections (some of you may understand) which probably amounted to some 18 minutes before I could hit the replay button for an accurate viewing of the video. It was worth it!!! WOW!!! So worth it, I replayed the video four times. I would listen to it again, but I lost the replay connection.
This is the first time I have ever viewed or listened to Keith and again, WOW!!! Also in the 60s I went back to college at age 42 and spent four years of my life as a print Journalism major so I am from the old school of “Objectivity” and the "five Ws" and was able to relate to every word Keith uttered.
Keith’s message should be a wake-up call to a lot of people on DU, the President of the United States, his administration and the World. It sure was for me. Brought back the days of what Journalism was really all about.

1. I always minimized the You Tube or other video window |
|
and left it on "pause" while the damn thing loaded. I then surfed around, checking back every few minutes to see if it was worth starting yet.
Ah, the joys of dialup and an iffy computer. I know them all too well.

2. After all that, I'm so glad you liked what he had to say. It was |
|
really powerful and I just hope this Administration watches it and wakes up. What they did to Ms. Sherrod made them look really, really stupid and it won't go away for a long time. We need desperately to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine - Fox would be off the air in a day.

3. It was probably his best commentary yet and he was on vacation! |
|
I watched the whole show hosted by Lawrence O'Donnell, who said Keith was so incensed about this injustice that he did this special piece even though it was during his vacation and they ended the show with the commentary. It's too bad other journalists aren't as devoted to their jobs and the responsibilities it brings. Keith gets my support now more than ever.

4. If this was the first time you |
|
have heard Keith you picked a good one. He certainly was 'right on' tonight. With your journalism background I'm sure you can see how much real journalism means to Keith too.

5. It breaks my heart to see what has happened to the J Profession. I was not only |
|
a news reporter, columnist and magazine editor but my two late husbands were, both, award winning newsmen from the old school. At 87 I am editor of the Native Unity blog - a seven year old Native American news outlet.

as true journalism is the heart of a democracy. We used to make fun of Russia and well here we are with reporting that is totally tainted. It's been a while too so I wonder if the memory of true journalism is really there anymore at least for the major news outlets that the mainstream watches.

6. this was one of his best special comments. what passes for "journalism" these days is cringe-worthy |
|
with very few exceptions.
I was listening to a Bill Moyer speech given to the media reform conference in 2007--think that should be played, along with KO's special comment, 24/7 until people remember what journalism is supposed to be.
