Voting early and often in Indiana, N.C.

Indiana and North Carolina haven't had this big a say in the Democratic presidential race for decades, so election officials are reporting high interest and possible record turnout.

One indication: More than 600,000 people have already voted in the two states combined, taking advantage of early voting and absentee balloting before Tuesday's primaries.

The numbers are particularly eye-popping in North Carolina. More than 488,000 voters have already cast ballots, nearly 13 percent of eligible voters.

In Indiana, at least 159,000 people have already voted, about 4 percent of eligible voters.

1. I always go to the polls at 9:00 am (give or take 10 minutes).

In the last GE, at 9:00 am, 87 voters had preceded me (the voting boxes digitally display how many ballots have been fed into them, here). In the last primary, I was #18, at 9:00.

Today, at 9:00, 121 voters had been there before me. There were 12 or 15 voting stations, and half were occupied when I showed up. The poll workers all were busy - unlike the last primary when they seemed desperately, pathetically grateful to see me.

3. In my precinct,, NC, when I showed up at 8:30 am

they told me there were already considerably more votes cast that morning, than last time around all day long.
I wore my Obama button, and a rose bud pinned behind it. After that I plastered the "I voted" under his face went about town into 4 stores and just made converstation and asked people if they had gone to vote yet.
To the ones who admitted being registered Repubes I simply said: "Just remember in November that you have a choice not to vote for this batch of Neocons that call themselves Republicans."
In words and general impression I have the feeling around here it will be OBAMA's win tonight.
