Thousands in Pa. switch parties, many to vote for Obama

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — David Butler voted for Richard Nixon in 1972, then kept voting for GOP candidates through Watergate, Reaganomics and the Bill Clinton years.

This year, though, the 59-year-old teacher switched his registration to Democrat, and he said he plans to vote Tuesday for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Since Jan. 1, more than 178,000 people in Pennsylvania have changed their party affiliations, and 92 percent of them have gone from Republican or independent to Democrat.

Some 4.2 million Democrats are eligible to vote in Tuesday's presidential primary, and the Pennsylvania Department of State predicted Monday that turnout could be as high as 50 percent.

If a big chunk of the party-switchers side with Obama, they could give him a decided edge.

3. People who went to the trouble of switching parties
are much more likely to show up and vote than the average registered voter. I hope this bodes well for Obama.

4. I don't trust ANY repug....
They could be part of that "Operation Chaos" bullshit instigated by Rush Limpballs. They'll vote for Clinton in the primary and McCain in the general.

5. Not here
the Repubs I talked to who are switching for this vote WANT Obama. They'll vote for him in the fall, not for Billary.

6. People who voted for every Puke since Nixon are NOT liberals. So why are they behind Obama?
Are we to believe they suddenly threw their entire political philosophy out the window, admitted they have been terribly misguided and wrong, and that they have resolved to vote for the most liberal, instead of the most conservative candidate from now on.

That ain't too likely.

What IUS likely is that -- regardless of what they say -- the Pukes fear Hiullary much more than they do Boy Wonder.

7. After the past 7 years, you have to ask?

They're probably as disgusted with this admin as we are, except for that brainless 28% who will vote for a rethug regardless. Maybe they're sick of this war as much as we are.

Maybe big dawg disgusted them with his wh antics and want nothing to do with the Clintons or yet another dynasty. Perhaps her negative campaigning is what convinced them they're sick of it; I am, and Obama has conducted a much more positive campaign. Maybe they know the rethugs are drooling over the prospect of Clinton running against McCain. Her negatives are so high, it'd be a miracle if she beat him.

Finally, maybe they approve of Obama's message more. God knows we need a change in the way this government is run, and just maybe, he can pull it off. Also, if the way a campaign is run is any indication of how a country can/should be run, who has surpassed who in the way they organized and conducted their campaign? And don't forget the little matter of money. She's broke. 'Nuff said.
