LAT: Clinton campaign mgr. Maggie Williams worked for subprime lender

Maggie Williams, the new campaign manager for Sen. Hillary Clinton, earned about $200,000 on the board of a Long Island, N.Y., subprime lender that charged prepayment penalties — a practice that Clinton, as a candidate and critic of the subprime industry, now seeks to eliminate.

Williams, who took over the reins of Clinton’s campaign in early February, served as a director on the board of the Woodbury, N.Y.-based Delta Financial Corp. from April 2000 until the firm declared bankruptcy in December last year, according to Securities and Exchange Commission records.

She was originally recruited by former New York City Deputy Mayor Bill Lynch, a Delta consultant. Her assignments were to create a new code of “best practices,” and to improve the company’s crisis management operation in the wake of state and federal predatory lending probes that resulted in a $12-million company payout to borrowers.

Her hiring coincided with stepped-up Delta outreach efforts in minority communities, where the company made a large number of its loans, an initiative that included parties for homeless children and mortgage seminars in Brooklyn and Queens.

The 53-year-old Williams isn't the only Clinton campaign insider who made money from an industry that their candidate boss demonizes on the political trail. A month ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that Clinton ally and former secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros grossed more than $5 million in stock sales and board compensation from Countrywide Financial, one of the nation’s largest subprime lenders.

1. Did you forget about Michelle Obama's little behind the scenes acts?
We'll just start with the 100 million dollars her not for profit hospital made last year by charging uninsured minorities at least 3 times more for medical services. Why does that not offend you? I know, its because you've drunk the Kool Aid.

And that's just for starters, so don't play the dirty digging game.

2. Hi, again, cbaker!
Since you're new here, I'll post my usual disclaimer:

I am a neutral poster of articles here, posting articles both positive and negative about both candidates, because I think it's valuable for both supporters and detractors of both candidates to know what's out there in the press. I almost always post articles without comment.

And, if you'll look down the list of posts in this forum, you'll see my posts, falling into those categories. If articles aren't equally divided between the two candidates any given day, that's a reflection of what I find in the press on that day.

That said, I am an Obama supporter, but admire and respect Clinton, and would happily vote for her if she's the nominee.

3. Hello back
I'm glad for the welcome and appreciate your candor, so I'll reply with some candor of my own. I'm one of many people who has never, ever seen a Presidential candidate get treated so badly, cruelly and viciously in the press as Hillary Clinton has.

And what has made it worse is that Obama supporters are even more vicious, personally insulting and rude to not only Hillary but her supporters. I don't care for that. You in fact are 1 of only 2 Obama supporters who have not hurled insults, personal attacks and/or profanity my way when I've shown support for Hillary or provided some balance in a pro-Obama post. Its been shocking to witness the vitriolic level from the supporters of the unity and change candidate. Faced with that, some people would cry, some would walk away, and some would fight back. Count me in the latter category. But you'll always know where I stand.

As far as Obama is concerned, I liked him before this all started, but a few things have really soured me toward him. I get the sneaking suspicion he is very different when the cameras are off than he is in those college campus speeches. I've actually had 2 friends who saw him at UCLA say that they noticed that too. Anytime I've had a hunch like that before, its turned out to be true. But I am still willing to give him a chance if he is nominated, as long as he doesn't treat Hillary like his supporters have treated her supporters.

I think basic human respect is in order all around.

4. Yeah, poor poor little hilary.
ya gotta feel sorry for someone who lies about being in sniper fire in Bosnia and then gets busted for it. She lies about Obama but never gets called on it so it's just deserts she got hoisted on her own petard.

5. Hard to Keep up with the Misstatements in that Gem
I'm not sure there were 3 words in a row in that gem of a post that weren't completely wrong. And the cartoon's sentiments were even more off. When exactly has Hillary said "I'm just a girl, don't attack me." And when exactly has she said something about Obama that has the effect of bludgeoning him bloody with a spiked ball?

If you're that hypersensitive you're going to have an aneurism when the general election comes around.
