What the hell am I going to do with a car that has a lien on the title?!

I can't get the damn thing registered to make it street worthy to get it to the mechanic for an inspection. I can't believe I'm still dealing with this shit 7 years after the fact. He told me he paid it off. Oh and I just found an old electric bill that he hasn't paid on my credit report. Aren't exes grand?

who holds the lien and is it for a laege amount? if so let them have it?

Not sure what's owed on it, been afraid to call them truthfully. If I give it back to them, will they try to hit me up for the money?

But we bought it in 2001, it was "totalled" by State Farm in 02-03 (hail damage) and I was told that insurance $ paid it off. So if there were any notices, he never told me about them.

and seems like the title would be a salvage one anyway. You can get a salvage title redone with inspection to be roadworthy but at that point I doubt you could get any kind of loan against it unless the lien is just a general judgement against all the guy's assets...???

if you don't care about it call a shady junkyard and they will probably take off your hands and pay you a few bucks too. not sure where you are but some will take them with no title as long as it is older and not reported stolen.

3. lots of cars have lien holders

and they are registered every day. You just need a title showing who the lien holder is.

The title is not in my name. I sent a check to get a copy so my ex could sign-it over to me- DPS informed me of the lien. I think I may just have it towed back to him. Let it sit in his driveway collecting dust.

Personally, I just assume sell it to the next worker that asks about it- I get knocks at my door every few months asking to buy it. Usually from what appear to be lawn maintenance people.
But my current hubby thinks we should hold on to it as a "back up car". Back up for what? We have two perfectly good working cars! I'm actually sentimentally attached to the car, but at this point if I get $400-500 and have someone come and get, I'd part with it.

in Alabama, not only must you have a clear title to sell a vehicle, it has to have up to date registration.

14. Salvage - a lot of them don't bother to look for a lien because they'll just chop them.

They can sell damn near every part of the car as individual parts, or take them to a scrap metal place, and the lien won't mean a damn thing. As for the electric bill, just call them. They deal with that shit all the time.
