I'll tell you what annoys me! It annoys you too - CAR ALARMS |
|
Seriously, to the dumbass with the new car - fix your damn car alarm so it's not so fricking sensitive. I really do NOT like being woke up at 2:30 in the morning just so your car can scream "I WAS TOUCHED". This has been happening since Thursday, which is why I know it's either a new car or some dumbass that thinks if the alarm goes off the police will just come barreling by to see what is amiss.
Personally I think they should be banned. Or make them silent so the owner could see the alarm go off but not annoy the rest of the neighborhood.

1. They should be set up to ring the owner's phone and wake them to go take care of their ride. |

Why should the entire neighborhood suffer over the stupidity of one person.

2. Here's my car alarm story |
|
Many years ago I moved to El Paso, and transferred my car insurance policy. Car theft was so bad my insurance agent told me I was REQUIRED to have a car alarm on my truck (Ford Rangers were high theft) or they wouldn't renew my policy. This was even though my vehicles were locked in my garage at night and behind a secured fenced area at work. OK, whatever. I bought the cheapest alarm I could get at Radio Shack, installed it, turned it off, and forgot about it. A year later I was awoken in the middle of the night by a car alarm. I thought it was my neighbor's (again). I told my wife I wish that asshole would turn off his alarm. After several minutes it didn't go off. Finally I checked my garage to discover my car alarm was going off. Needless to say I ripped it out and threw it in the trash.

4. My insurance company offers a discount too but doesn't force it on you |
|
When I got my last car, it had one of those key fobs that can lock/unlock your door but no alarm. When my insurance company asked if I had a car alarm I showed them that and they gave me the discount.

El Paso was really bad for car thefts. They would steal your car and 15 minutes later it would be across the border. They caught the Juarez chief of police driving a stolen car from the US.
At the time I had a car and the small truck. They didn't require one for the car, but trucks of many makes and models were a high theft item.

It's not like I'm going to hear it with a car alarm. That's why I thoought of that solution, but I can't figure out how to set that up.

Decades ago, I lived in an apartment in Redwood City. Bit by bit, the neighborhood got progressively worse. I'd come home at night and there would be people under the stairwell drinking things out of brown paper bags.
I parked my car in a car port, which is a haven for people ripping off cars and their contents.
My battery got stolen. In my stupidity, I failed to realize that if I put in a new battery, the person who took the old one would know it and come back for the new one. They did.
This was a 1970 Chevelle Malibu...no built-in security of any kind.
So I put a lock on the hood and what was (at the time) a primitive alarm system...you turned it off and on with a key, no "keychain" access.
The people next door were bad news. The guy was a cop but his back yard was FILLED with things he'd "borrowed" from the local school district...chairs, tables, etc. In the summer they ran what was most likely unlicensed daycare in the back yard...which was directly adjacent to the apartment complex. SCREAMING kindergarten / 1st grade / 2nd grade kids, all summer long.
On several occasions, this guy's kid threw a football over the fence and hit my car, making the alarm go off.
One day, he did it while I was out with my girlfriend in her car.
Came back and found a note: "Your alarm was bothering the neighbors so I disconnected it. Officer Messick."
If you've seen any of the TruTV "reality shows" like Operation Repo ofr Lizard Lick Towing, that was this guy...probably around 300 pounds, a real load.
When I moved out of that shithole it was one of the happiest days in my life.

7. Usually by the time I have gotten the shotgun and clip and started down the stairs, it stops. |
|
It might take a few cartridges to figure out how to shut the fucker up, but that's a risk worth taking.

9. If I hear it again tonight I'm going to go find out what car it is and report it to the police |
|
Not that it's being broken-in. But that for 3 nights in a row I was woken up at 3am to the damn car alarm. I think the owners should be held accountable since it was their stupidity that is affecting my sleep.

Find the car. report it. Let the police work their magic.
Assuming that they tell you they cannot do anything about it, Wait until dark, then walk out and bump the car, no damage, just a bump to set off the alarm, every 15 minutes until even the owner wants it to stop. Bet that makes it stop.

12. I worked at an office in a building that was right on the railroad line. (15 years ago) |
|
With just the right combination of wind and a multi-engine cargo train rumbling by, it seemed like half of the fucking parking lot was screaming car alarms. It was common to see a car being hauled off on a towtruck with the alarm blasting. Nobody pays any attention to them in the sense of "Oh, gee. A car's being broken into. I should call the police."
I get the same discount because my van has a PK3 key tied to the steering column. I'll take that over a stupid-ass noise machine.

18. I parked next to a car once that had an alarm that went off if you closed a door near it. |
|
Didn't touch the car once, and managed to set it off three times while getting my groceries and children into my car. One of the few times I've ever been seriously tempted to key somebone's car.
