Most agnostics simply acknowledge that there is no way to determine existence or not of a higher power so there's no validity in worshiping an imaginary being anymore than there is waiting for Santa - and in many ways the spirit of Santa is more real.

Most atheists, while without "belief", are quite verbal in their denial of any higher power because it can NOT exist. I've always viewed that as a belief of sorts, but it isn't a belief in a higher being, but rather the lack of the possibility of one.

As I get older, I'm moving more toward the absolute atheist - I can't know and don't give a shit anyway.

There are VERY FEW of them.

I think your definitions are some of the better ones that I have seen, but doesn't the conclusion that humans would have no way to verify the existence of a deity itself establish that atheism is limited to human capabilities and therefor must accept the possibility that the existence of deities is possible but non-detectable by humans.

I believe the terms are truly interchangeable, but some like the idea that not believing has two levels and they can be in either group.

I see it that ATHEIST is a religion = the BELIEF, and firm belief, that there is no God.
Agnostic would be a non-religion = not decided, on the fence, don't know what to think, may decide later if they feel like it.

No, I don't if he's a Him, either. It was just my first concept of God was as a "He," and I am unable to think of "Him" as a "She." But if asked if I am religious, by the connotations of the word, I would have to say, no. Do I pray? Yes. Not enough, though.

My opinion of other people is that if they express a belief strongly enough to call it a religion, they are religious, in my mind. If an atheist expresses a positive belief that there is no God, then he is religious, and atheism is his religion, in my mind.

An agnostic by its definition is 'undecided,' so I would say an agnostic is *not* religious, just open-minded.

So, I know nobody here thinks I am right but it is still my opnion. And what is a religion, other than an opinions?

I see it this way: Agnostic and atheist are the answers to 2 completely different questions.
Do you know there is a god? No, I'm agnostic. Yes, I am gnostic (though i'd like to see the proof that lets you know. Also not to be confused with the christian sect of Gnostics which is different).
Do you BELIEVE there is a god? No, I am an atheist. Yes, I am a theist (be it deist, monotheist, polytheist or whatever. You believe there is a supernatural being that governs the universe or at least created it).


I don't know if there is a god. I see nothing in the universe around me to make me think there might be. I do not believe there is a god. I also don't think anyone else can know for sure there is a god as there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that there might be.

I think everyone is born agnostic and atheist.

I was raised in an independent, fundamentalist Baptist church and graduated from a Christian high school run by them. Yes, they are weird.

I don't think the scriptures should all be taken literally, think there should be an openness to other opinions, and I don't let it come into my life a lot. I also don't like Christian pop. I prefer gospel, and at Christmas time, I enjoy Christmas music. I love some music done BY Christians, like Eisley, but their music is more pop/rock with the occasional hint of their religion.

I believe there is a higher being or beings and an afterlife. I think all religions have benefical aspects but most major religious traditions have been corrupted by humans and are used for selfish purposes at times. That being said, I do see a benefit to one's life through a faith. I don't think any one religion has it right nor do I think any has it wrong.. I just think many religions are used in ways that are not for enhancing one's faith nor one's contribution to society.
