If you are going to call your recipe "authentic", don't you dare fucking put cream in it.
Just reserve the water used to cook the pasta. Add it to the pan with half the cheese and the fried bacon. THAT is what gives it its "creaminess"!

Cream belongs in alfredo sauce. Carbonara is an egg or two, bacon and a little liquid if necessary. And gobs of Parmigiano Reggiano.
