1. Yes. And I had a neighbor with a couple dozen peacocks. The NBC version wasn't half as good. |
|
They were great for alerting her of people coming on her property and she gave me all their feathers they'd dropped off. They have some pin feathers in the back to support the grander ones that look like they could have come from chickens or birds of prey. They all roosted in the trees and it was gorgeous when they flew down.

2. They are pretty but annoying as hell. |
|
Old high school friend's family had a small ranch out near Wimberly Tx and they had some at the Ranch House. While they did a good job of eating pests in the yard, they were loud, beyond loud. They also crapped everywhere possible. It was almost impossible to walk anywhere without shoes full of Peacock/peahen crap which is why we weren't allowed to wear shoes in the house.

Their alarm call sounds like a semi truck horn. And their mating call sounds like someone being murdered.
Back when we first started getting neighbors, some idiot decided that their brand new 3.5 acre "estate" needed peacocks and they let three hens and a peacock loose. Being no fools, those birds moved to a place where they could find grain and insects (which were in short supply on the manicured and chemically treated lawn of the "estate") and started roosting at our lower barn.
After a couple of weeks, I'd had with those damned nuisances. One of my client's husband was a hunter and I told him he could come take some shots at the peacocks. Animal control would not touch them, the wildlife rescue people considered them domestic fowl, but I considered them to be illegally released alien species. The hunter never got a good bead on the birds, but he harassed them enough that they found another place to live.

15. The ones on his ranch were dumber than a sack of rocks |
|
We got some mustard onto a black-cat one time at the 4th of July and one of them almost ate the damned thing before we knew it (and the thing blew up - it didn't hurt the bird (grumble grumble)). These would have stood still and let you take multiple shots at them if you wanted to.

7. Not only do I remember the peacock, I remember the announcement: |
|
"The following program is brought to you in living color, on NBC". I also remember when TV Guide would have a little "C" by a program name to denote that it was in color.

8. Maybe anthropomorphizing, but my buddy Phil had some at his Dad's farmhouse... |
|
. . . ... and when I would drive up to his house, I'd get a kick out of them checking themselves out in the chrome bumpers of my car. . . .

9. I remember it. My little brother was just learning to walk, |
|
and he was fascinated by the thing. He would stand in front of the TV and make happy baby sounds when it came on.

14. I do. Once at a zoo, a peacock displayed with his feathers resting on my lap. |
|
I was sitting on a bench at an outdoor snack bar, and the peacock knew people had food and was in the area hoping someone would give hm something. He stood right next to me while displaying, and his feathers rested on my leg for a couple of minutes. Everyone else there was looking and smiling when they saw this. I loved it; it was great! Unfortunately, my friend had gone to the bathroom and missed the whole thing.
