Aw, no. Coco Robicheaux has died.
For those uninitiated:

For those only initiated through Treme:

He died on Frenchman last night, at The Apple Barrel, doing just what he loved to do, hanging with the people of New Orleans.

Peace on the other side, Coco.

2. Sad news RIP Coco.
Real music has lost another voice. :(

3. Indeed it has. He was an artist and sculptor as well.
And a character.

5. I was the uninitiated
There are few songs that I like really good on first listen, but that was one of them. Reminds me of contemporary Bob Dylan a little with better vocals. Lots of soul there.

6. Yes indeed. He was a great combination of rawness and pure, subtle showman.
I love that combination. The joke on Treme was that he went to bless the new WWOZ location after Katrina (he really was a shaman of sorts) and made an epic chicken sacrifice that got DJ Davis fired. I'll bet they miss his occasional presence on that show.
