Odd coincidences
This morning I was looking at a 40-50 million year old fungus gnat inclusion in a piece of amber, when a living fungus gnat flew onto my hand and crawled onto the amber.

Has anyone else here had unusual coincidences happen?

1. It's a glitch in the Matrix
That's what I think when those kinds of things happen, and they have happened to me also.

6. Whatever it was, it took me aback for
a minute. It kind of gave me the willies.

2. Perhaps it wanted to mate
with the gnat in the amber

4. haha,
I wondered about that too. If so, it must have liked older women - assuming that the amber gnat was a female, and the live one a male, or vice versa. :-)

7. Maybe so, and
also that the only noticeable changes between it and its amber ancestor is a slight difference in the vein pattern on their wings. Amazing. :-O

9. So it's telling you that perfection needs only minor tweeks in millions of years

The perfectly evolved living entity. Is that a good thing or is an evolution stopper a bad thing? The heavy questions.

10. Yes, fungus gnats must have
always been perfectly adapted to their environments. I find that amazing.

I ordered a book to help me figure out what species my amber gnat is by looking at its wing vein pattern.

It is a heavy question. Still, there's the thing with the wing veins. I wonder what the deal is with that.

5. "Hey, guys, I found out what happened to Great Grandpa"
The fungus gnat is now telling the rest of the family that the long-standing mysterious disappearance of their beloved ancestor has been solved.
