I've also got a fish and a bunch of hermit crabs, but that wouldn't fit in the subject line.

I could tell you stories that might make you cry of those moments when things were sweet, loving and beautiful. Destroyed within moments by those who were sadistic, mocking and cruel.
With a few minutes, that which brought my soul to a feeling of peace with the universe and rejoicing in the rapture of life vibrating around me, stripped away and dragged to the level of almost murderous hatred and a feeling of helplessness in the face of evil.
We live in a world of polarity, in which we want to believe and enjoy one thing or the other. If we believe that we have a choice, that this is all a game of learning, everything stops and I guess we either die or evolve, if there is such a thing.
:woohoo:

Scientists, if you are here, listen up..
The whole GMO food thing... That irritates many, and scares others. But you know what doesn't scare people?
Soft fluffy kittens.
Also warm comfortable slippers.
Imagine this... Combine the two. Self cleaning, self warming, purring, wearable fuzzy kitten slippers. Useful cats.
Get on it, scientists. The world is watching. Pull this one off, and we may even take a second look at some of your other ideas, global warming and whatnot. Who could not love/agree with the people who did such a thing for us?

Is your glass half-empty or half-full? I don't think anyone can (or should) keep the rose-colored glasses on all the time.
Out there, over here, it's the quietest day of the year. Today. Everyone's indoors enjoying whatever they are doing (watching TV or slaving in the kitchen), and there is a very, very high pile of snow on the ground from almost two days of heavy snowfall. It's really deep. And it's clean and it's quiet.
I chose today to not celebrate the holiday with anyone. It really felt like the only right choice for me, and I am sure there are others out there who feel the same, for whatever reason.
I don't want to feel sad, though. I can make a choice to just stay indoors, because I can, or go somewhere to enjoy the quiet peaceful day out there, which I kind of hope I will do. I kind of want to drive somewhere to get out and walk if I do that and I don't really feel like driving, although my car is all dug out nice and clean and the roads are all plowed, and last time I looked, it had stopped snowing.
Some days we have to look at the bad stuff, and some days we just have to turn away and only look for the good stuff.
Coffee and a handful of plain tortilla chips is all I want to eat today. Sometimes Thanksgiving is happy, sometimes it is sad. And sometimes it just comes during the wrong year.
God bless.

for the incredible people I have had in my life and still have. And all the incredible things like Books and the DU. I am so lucky in so many ways. And even when my reputation was crap I came across the kindest most decent of people everywhere. There is much more good than evil in the world. I've lived it!

30. It is full of horrible and wonderful things |
|
I am not a positive thinking type person, but I do think that taking the time to think about the good things in life is a good idea. There are a lot of things this can't solve, but sometimes it can make you feel better.
I live in a part of the world where atrocious things happen nearby, things like horrific exploitation, slavery, honor killings, female genital mutilation, child marriage, rape as a sanctioned act of revenge or war, and many other things that make me heartsick. Admittedly, most of these are at a minimum in the place where I live, but I hear stories that make me cry and feel terrible about human beings in general. There are times when all of it hits me and I not only feel horrible for suffering people, but I feel guilty because, through no effort of my own, I was born into a better situation. So I decided there were two things I can do- treat everyone as decently as possible, with a determination not to be one of the people making things worse. It is a very small thing, and it doesn't seem like nearly enough, but it is something. The second thing I do is focus on things I love, which I'm therefore grateful for. There have been times when listening to the birds outside has made me feel content. I tell myself that it is perfectly ok to feel horrible over horrible things, but not appreciating the good things seems wasteful.
