Whomever said there is no difference between Generic and Brand Name drugs is FULL OF CRAP!!! |
|
:grr:
Mind you, I'll take generic advil or use generic Nyquil, but today I learned that without a doubt there is a MASSIVE difference between generic and brand name prescription drugs (other than the price).
So I'm sick.
I'm at the doctors and she puts together my prescription. The one thing that has helped me in the past is Nasonex. A few years back my allergist gave me like 5 sample bottles and I'm down to the last one (expired like 2 months ago - so it's still good). Really helps to get the junk out of my nose.
I'm at my regular doctors, who is very generous with the samples, but she doesn't have any Nasonex today but said she would write me a prescription. However Nasonex is the brand name and would I prefer the generic brand of Flonase instead?
Thinking that I would rather save some money and well 'generics and brand name - no difference' mentality I said 'why not?'
FLONASE IS THE NASTIEST SHIT OF ALL TIME.
I felt like I was sticking a damn bottle of perfume extract up my nose and inhaling it - which just made everything 10000% worse. I couldn't quit sneezing for over an hour. It was like someone juiced an entire field of lilacs into the damn bottle. Who wants to snort that crap up my nose? Why would anyone want to snort that up their nose?
So I'm back to the Nasonex.

2. Flonase has an added 'masking perfume'. I dislike most perfumes, too. |

3. Flonase (fluticasone) and Nasonex (mometasone) are not the same drug. |
|
Currently there is no generic form of Nasonex available in the U.S. The patent for it in the U.S. is owned by Schering-Plough and the patent expires July 2014, so there won't be any generic form of Nasonex until July 2014 at the earliest.
When there is a generic alternative for a brand-name drug, they are in fact the same drug and have the same properties.
