. . . these aren't actual enemies, people who bomb anybody, leaders of factions or even people who plan attacks. These are people who say nasty things about the US. With the poor oversight we have over the NSA, this could be aimed at anybody, including people who are politically unfriendly to the NSA.

Blackmailing somebody for what they've done in mutual sex that involves another person is one thing. But here the attack is on somebody's masturbation habits and fantasies. As blackmail goes, that's as close to thoughtcrime as it is to sexuality.

All I could say is, just wait until your privacy is breached and see if you stay blase about the principle.
