(8,445 posts)You can forever yell "but they are the true fascist authoritarians" while laying blame at the messengers' feet; it won't change how readily apparent is the establishment's zeal for massive surveillance and punishment.
It is much more intellectually honest to admit that Obama has developed authoritarian instincts, further lowering the bar for the entire nation. Any time political leaders buy into a cycle of repression and corruption, they create opportunities for those who wear different stripes.
Snowden happens to be a libertarian, but he is not a politician so that fact is of no great import. Besides, not everyone who speaks truth to power can be a liberal. We should, however, be thankful he showed the world that the surveillance feeding frenzy indeed has a private-sector face (...even if that isn't the only one).
As for Greenwald, most of us disagree with him only on the Citizens United issue which is a lot better standing than you could manage.
