(62 posts)I don't understand the hand wringing and "cup half empty" attitude as I don't understand what it accomplishes, other than making you more depressed. Maybe "understand" is the wrong word because I do understand it--I often get that way about things that are important to me in the mistaken thought that it will be less painful of a let down if my worst fears come true. However fearing the worst doesn't make it any less painful should the worst come to pass, it just makes me miserable before AND after.
Anyway, of course it's not like 2008. In 2008 Barack Obama made history. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the energy he brought and the idea of America having it's first black President. A lot of idealism and "feel good". Now we've got a more mature candidate, not the idealistic candidate we all thought would build some sort of utopian society. But that doesn't mean Obama isn't going to win again any more than it means once you get over the high of your honeymoon you'll divorce your spouse. If anything it's a much more realistic support of Obama that's happening.
Finally, I've known many of my friends who voted for McCain in 2008 that simply CANNOT stand Romney and will not vote for him. Some are actually voting for Obama, others for Gary Johnson.
