7. With the human population approaching 8 billion, two things are obvious:

1) We can't all have automobiles; much less the highways, roads, parking lots, etc., that automobiles require.

2) We can't all have cheap hamburger and bacon.

Billions of people are now excluded from the automobile and bacon cults by poverty.

As people become more affluent the environmental impacts of these two consumer cults will become increasingly dire.

Many aspects of consumer culture are as pernicious and as damaging to human progress as racism or religions that subjugate women.

Automobiles and factory farm meat are not necessities. They are in fact a frequent cause of human suffering and environmental destruction.
