and then decline' is not entirely in opposition to the thinking 'we need to get off of fossil fuels because they're wrecking the atmosphere'.

At least, not insofar as many of the perceived solutions to the problem would overlap i.e. there should a significant amount of common ground between the two camps, in particular with those Peaker-types who are enlightened WRT climate change, which, in my experience, a great many are.

One of Kunstler's big 'things' is people moving to cities, which in turn need to deploy better urban planning to focus more on public transit, bike riding and walking. Is this something you see as a bad idea? I think it makes sense as 'part of the solution'.

I'd think that abandoning the suburban model and increasing population density in this manner would have many positive knock-on effects with the climate (if done properly).
