1. To be fair Kunstler was not entirely off-track

He, and all of the Peak Oil people, were wrong in terms of the timing of the eminence of the problem. Nonetheless, what they were talking about may very well eventually happen. In fact I believe it's pretty near-certain.

Also

"inspire considerable fear and angst that "something" had to be done to save the car CULTure, with which Americans, Europeans, and wealthy Asian nations live"


was most certainly not Kunstler's general thesis or point. He constantly ridicules the culture of 'Happy Motoring' and suburban living and talks about how damaging it is to the planet.

Just sayin'.
